Nokia Supernova Series

Nokia 7610
Though they've already been on sale in some parts of the world, Nokia's just now getting around to making its foursome of Supernovas official. The new line reps mid-range fashion (think L'Amour, but not over the top) and comes in your choice of two candybars, a flip, or a slider as the 7210, 7310, 7510, or 7610, respectively. The 7210 features a tri-band GSM radio plus EDGE, a 2 megapixel camera, and an FM radio; look for it to launch in the third quarter for €120 (about $189).

The 7310 apes the 7210's look but adds support for changeable Xpress-On faceplates, TV-out, and support for GSM 850, and while all that extra kit adds €35 (about $55) to the price over the lesser model, it's available now. The 7510 goes for the flip form factor but carries over most of the 7310's spec sheet, waiting it out until the fourth quarter for a €180 (about $283) launch in scary colors like "Fatal Red". Finally, the 7610 (no, not that one) moves up to a beefier 3.2 megapixel camera and hits next quarter for €225 (about $354).

T-Mobile Announces Motorola ROKR E8

Motorola ROKR E8
T-Mobile has finally taken the wraps off its very own version of Motorola's ROKR E8, a glossy black candybar offering a 2 megapixel camera, 2GB of internal storage (plus a microSD slot that'll swallow up to 8GB more), stereo Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, and that so-called "morphing" keypad that selectively renders keys invisible depending on the mode you're using.

It's missing 3G, but that's one feature T-Mobile customers are all too well acquainted to missing out on -- and considering that the just-announced flagship ZN5 doesn't even do any WCDMA, it shouldn't come as any surprise. Subscribers and would-be subscribers will be able to nab the E8 come July 7 for $199.99 on contract.

Samsung’s Instinct now Available for $130 on Sprint

Available now and right on schedule for $129.99 (with 2 year contract and $100 mail-in rebate), not the original $200 bounced around initially. With Sprint trying hard to position the Instinct as an iPhone killer, we guess they really didn't have a choice but to undercut it in price.

With the given specifications, I am sure that Samsung Instinct will surely give a tough competition to Apple iPhone.

Nokia E66 S60 Slider Goes Official

Nokia E66 S60 Slider
Nokia's bringing some new, unsurprising, E series hotness to the States in the form of the new E66 slider. Featuring GSM, EDGE, WCDMA and HSDPA bands galore, the phone is slated for a Q3 release this year. Features include a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, along with a front-facing cam for video calls, WiFi, A-GPS, 3.6mbps web browsing and a 2.4-inch QVGA screen. What really sets it apart from its E series counterparts is the 13.6mm thickness. The battery life is amazing too, with 14 days of standby, and 7.5 hours of talk on GSM, or 3.5 hours of talk on 3G. There's only 110MB of internal memory, but you can supplement that with an 8GB microSD card. The phone comes in "grey steel" or "white steel" (what, no blue steel?), and Nokia is planning to keep this under $500.

Sprint to Offer Samsung Instinct at $199.99 on Contract

Samsung Instinct
If some internal sources at Sprint are to be believed then the Samsung Instinct will run $199.99 on contract after rebates. The earlier speculation that the best Sprint and best Samsung phone ever, Samsung Instinct was going to be $299 after rebate. Looks as if Sprint was just waiting for Apple’s announcement before settling on a price. The best part is that current customers can supposedly buy the phone without renewing their two-year contract, which is pretty great for someone who is planning to change carriers soon. Sprint will also be asking users to sign up for an "Everything" plan when taking delivery of their Instinct, a move that smacks of AT&T's marriage of the iPhone to specific plans.

Samsung i900 Omnia, Finally Announced

Samsung i900 Omnia
The highly rumored Samsung i900 has finally been announced by Samsung. Named Samsung i900 Omnia, the Windows Mobile 6.1 powered phone features a 3.2-inch WideQVGA display (240 x 400 pixels), 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, built in accelerometer, WiFi module, Bluetooth, USB Port, FM Tuner and an optical mouse much like the one found in the Samsung i780. Talking about the camera, the Samsung i900 Omnia offers a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with face and smile detection. Geotagging is also one of the camera features since the i900 also packs a built-in GPS receiver.

Looking at the body of the Samsung i900 Omnia, it looks rather identical to the Apple iPhone. In addition to similar looks the i900 also shares the same massive internal memory. Samsung i900 Omnia will be available in both an 8GB and 16GB i900 versions with the microSD still present for further expanding.

The Samsung i900 comes up with the quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support plus HSDPA 7.2Mbps. The built-in accelerometer lets the UI automatically rotate to follow the handset's current orientation.

And when you are out to compete with Apple’s iPhone, touch interface becomes very important, keeping this fact in mind Samsung has used their TouchWiz user interface for use on Windows Mobile.

The Samsung i900 Omnia will be available from June 2008.

Acer Announces it's Plans to Release a WM6 Smartphone

Acer WM6 Smartphone
Acer President Gianfranco Lanci recently announced that they will release a WM6 smarphone by the end of this year or possibly early next year.

I already anticipated that when Acer acquired E-10 last month. It became pretty obvious that it would only be a matter of time before they leveraged their purchase to develop a phone of their own.

They also announced that E-10 would leave their PDA business and focus exclusively on smartphones.
